Overview

Millersville and Shippensburg Universities are highly regarded for their NCATE-accredited education programs and recognized for innovative teacher preparation and educational leadership programs.

The Educational Leadership Doctorate leverages the strength of Shippensburg’s Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility Program, including extensive field experiences and dedicated district-level mentors, with Millersville’s expertise in cyber-school and online learning environments.

Working together, both universities are able to better serve the region and the Commonwealth by ensuring breadth and depth among program faculty and course offerings while keeping student costs affordable.

Outcomes

Cohorts of 14-16 students examine major problems of practice while collaborating with university faculty, leadership fellows who are practicing experts in the field, as well as district-level executive leaders who serve as mentors.  Applicants begin as doctoral students and after demonstrating their commitment and exceptional performance become candidates for the doctoral degree.  The program is designed to assist applicants in becoming Scholar-practitioners who are prepared to serve public education in positions of executive leadership and are prepared to work in both traditional and/or high poverty environments. Candidates are also provided with a sophisticated background in the role technology plays in current educational programming.
