Dr. William Cowden, seen here with JC Wilson, the Chief Financial Officer for the Greencastle-Antrim School District and current doctoral student, will be stepping down as a member of the Educational leadership Faculty.  Dr. Cowden began his career in 1970 as a teacher with the Big Spring School District.  From there he moved on to various administrative positions with Big Spring, Cumberland Valley and the Shippensburg Area School District.  Before arriving at the university in August of 2007, Dr. Cowden served as an Assistant Superintendent in Shippensburg and as the Superintendent for the Big Spring School District. Dr. Cowden taught graduate level courses in a variety of leadership areas including finance, supervision, facilities and practicum.

His honors include: Recipient of the Governor George M. Leader Excellence in Education Award as Outstanding Superintendent Presented by the Council for Public Education; Named Phi Delta Kappa Educator of the Year by the Shippensburg University Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa; Served for Four Years as President of the Shippensburg University School Study Council; Recipient of the Dr. Rita J. Wolokiewicz Phi Delta Kappa Doctoral Dissertation Award Presented by Temple University Phi Delta Kappa; Recognition by the Big Spring Educational Foundation with a Scholarship awarded in his name to Big Spring High School Students.
